Privacy Policy
CelestQuest · last updated October 20, 2026
The short version: CelestQuest doesn't collect any personal information. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing about you is sent to me or anyone else.
CelestQuest is an iPhone app made by Mark Kaminsky. This policy explains how the app uses the things it asks for.
Location
CelestQuest uses your location to work out which stars, planets and satellites are above you. Your location is used only on your iPhone. It isn't sent to any server. The app remembers your last location on your iPhone so it can start quickly next time. You can turn location off in Settings and pick a city instead.
Camera
The camera shows the real sky on your screen, behind the names. The picture is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
Motion sensors and compass
These tell the app which way your iPhone is pointing. That information stays on your iPhone.
Internet
To show the International Space Station, Tiangong and the Hubble Space Telescope in the right place, CelestQuest downloads their latest orbits from CelesTrak (celestrak.org), at most every two hours. These downloads contain no information about you, though like any internet request they come from your device's internet address. The app makes no other internet requests.
What's stored on your iPhone
Your settings (such as a city you picked, what to show and your sound choices), your last location, the direction you were last looking, and the latest satellite orbits with the time they were downloaded are kept on your iPhone only. Deleting the app deletes them.
Songs and sharing
If you save a song from Listen, it goes only where you choose to save or share it.
Children
CelestQuest doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
